What is Stormwater?
Stormwater is water from precipitation that flows across the ground and pavement when it rains or when snow and ice melt.
This is called stormwater runoff.
Why is Stormwater a concern?
Stormwater is a problem when it picks up debris, chemicals, dirt, and other pollutants as it goes directly into our streams.
Phase II of the NPDES storm water program was signed into law in December 1999.
This regulation requires smaller communities including West Brandywine Township to develop and implement a comprehensive storm water management program that includes six minimum control measures:
- Public Education and Outreach On Storm Water Impacts
- Public Involvement/Participation
- Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination
- Construction Site Storm Water Run Off Control
- Post Construction Storm Water Management for New Development and Redevelopment
- Pollution Prevention - Good Housekeeping for Municipal Operations.
